Jamar is the Founder and Managing Principal of Essence Development. Prior to establishing Essence, Jamar served as the Vice President of New York Development at Related Companies, where he specialized in the redevelopment and preservation of affordable multifamily housing across the United States, managing over $800 million in transactions and more than $1.5 billion in development. In New York City, he led the construction and rehabilitation of nearly 5,000 affordable and workforce housing units. Jamar's extensive portfolio of current projects highlights his dedication to fostering real change in various communities. Before his development career, Jamar played in the National Football League with the Seattle Seahawks and the Philadelphia Eagles. He is a University of Michigan graduate and serves on the board of their Alumni Association and its LEAD Scholars program. Jamar is also a mentor to young professionals and actively involved in organizations like 100 Black Men of America and the Business of Sport School in New York City, which are committed to enhancing educational and economic opportunities. His interests include listening to music, following American football, and traveling.
